Let’s face it, while I may not know much about Purina Beyond cat food, I am not really a fan of the Purina brand as a whole. This is because most of the brand names under the Purina name tend to be made with some of the worst ingredients in the industry. On top of it all, I have heard nothing but horror stories from other pet owners about what this food has done to their beloved pets.

Does Purina Beyond cat food fit into the low bar this brand has made for itself in the industry? Or is it actually a brand that can bring some positivity to the name?

We will find out in this Purina Beyond cat food review!

For this review, I will be focusing on the Simply Natural Salmon and Whole Brown Rice Recipe.

Ingredient Breakdown

This is a high-quality protein ingredient. It is a rich source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, which can help support healthy skin and a shiny coat.

Chicken Meal

This is a high-quality protein ingredient that can contain as much as 300% more protein than chicken contains alone.

Whole Barley

This ingredient is a functional grain source that is used as a source of soluble fiber and carbohydrates.

This is a common ingredient found in many low-quality pet food brands. It is used as a source of carbohydrates and fiber. However, because it is not transparently listed to list its source, I have flagged this ingredient in this cat food review.

Pea Protein

This ingredient is used as a plant-based source of protein. It is typically used in many low-quality brands as a means to raise the protein content on the label.

Dried Egg Product

This ingredient is a high-quality source of protein. It is obtained from eggs sourced from an egg hatchery and dehydrated prior to use.

Whole Brown Rice

This is a high-quality source of carbohydrates and fiber. It has a low-glycemic index which can prevent dangerous blood sugar spikes.

Dried Yeast

This ingredient is used as an additional source of protein, amino acids, and B vitamins. It comes from the process of brewing beer or ale for human consumption.

Beef Fat

This ingredient is used as a source of fat and Omega 3 fatty acids. It can also be used as a means to increase the palatability of the food.

Pea Fiber

This ingredient is used as a plant-based source of insoluble fiber. It is seen as having little to no nutritional value.

Natural Flavor

This ingredient is used as a flavoring agent. It can come from a variety of meat, fruit, and vegetable sources.

Purina Beyond Cat Food Recall

While the brand Purina has been recalled before, the Purina Beyond line has actually never been recalled. This can be due to many reasons, first and foremost being that the different brands within the Purina lineup are manufactured in the same facilities as brands that have possibly been recalled. If a recall occurs on one brand, the other Purina brands can be affected as well.

Purina Beyond Cat Food Reviews

Most of the Purina Beyond cat food reviews you will find online tend to be pretty mixed. Let’s take a closer look at what some real cat owners are saying about this food below!

“My house is way cleaner ever since I started feeding my cat this food. My cats are vomiting way less than they would with any other brand and they aren’t using the litter box as much anymore.” -J & A, September 3rd

“This food has helped my cat not smell as bad. My cat used to be seriously smelly. Over the years I have tried several brands, but none have affected him quite like this food. I give this food two paws up.” -Steve Merrit, March 1st

“I’m not sure if the bag I bought was bad or not. This afternoon I fed my cat this food and within 30 minutes he began coughing and gagging. He became pretty lethargic for the remainder of the time. After calling my vet I decided to switch him to canned food to be on the safe side and he seems to be feeling much better three days later.” -Amazon Customer, June 15th

“This food has much larger kibble compared to other brands. My cats only have their front teeth, so this is a bit inconvenient for me. It may be great for owners who have larger cats.” -World Traveller, July 25th

“This food is absolutely wonderful. I just got my third bag of this food and my cat loves it. Best of all, she is able to keep this food down.” -NanaColleen, August 30th

Purina Beyond Cat Food: The Bottomline

The thing is, Purina Beyond cat food is neither the best food out there nor is it the worst. Even though it has the Purina brand name, this food does contain many high-quality ingredients cats will benefit from at a price cat owners will love. However, it does contain a few too many filler and low-quality ingredients to my liking. If you want a cheap brand that is certainly not the worst brand on the market, I recommend giving this brand a try.
