What led me to make these Legend of Zelda Triforce Natural Dog Biscuits?

Honestly, it was a mistake. Initially, I planned on making these treats in the design of the Overwatch logo from the game Overwatch since I have been slacking in the homemade dog treat making department. However, I soon came to the realization I was missing dog safe coloring I needed for the color of the logo. Instead, I came up with these treats to use what little dog-safe food coloring I did have available.

To be honest, I couldn’t be happier with the results. These treats are simple to make and can be ready for your pup in just under an hour.

So, let’s stop wasting time and get right into the recipe!

Natural Dog Biscuits: What You Need

Luckily, the base recipe for these dog biscuits doesn’t require much in order to put together. What is also great about it is that you can tweak the recipe as needed to best suit your treat needs.

Organic Peanut Butter

It shouldn’t be a surprise to find peanut butter in many dog treats, including this one. Not only does organic peanut butter have protein, but it can also contain essential vitamins such as Vitamin E, Vitamin B, and Niacin. It also contains healthy fats which can be beneficial to cardiac health.

This recipe calls for the use of just one egg. Eggs in treats come with a variety of benefits such as being loaded with helpful protein, riboflavin, and selenium. It is a great ingredient to use in dog treats to help give them an added boost of protein.

The base for these biscuits calls for the use of one banana. Bananas, in general, can be highly beneficial for dogs. Bananas are high in fiber, which can help aid in healthy digestion. Furthermore, bananas can contain magnesium and essential vitamins which can help promote overall well-being.

Oat Flour

Originally, I used to use chickpea flour for the base for these types of treats. However, with the latest report conducted by the FDA on the link between heart disease and chickpeas, I thought it best to switch up the type of flour I used. I opted for oat flour as a healthier alternative to traditional baking flour. When using this flour, be sure to give the biscuits rest time after baking to allow them to harden. It will help the treats to better hold the desired shape.

The water I use in this recipe is to moisten the dough I create for easy handling and rolling. Use your best judgment with how much water to add. For this recipe, I used between 3 tablespoons to ¼ cup until the dough had the consistency I desired.

Dog Safe Icing

While you can certainly make your own dog safe icing to design these treats with, for this particular recipe (and many of the treats I tend to make for this blog) I use Pastries4pets Grain-Free icing. It honestly just cuts the design time in half to make pumping out these treats easier on myself. However, feel free to use whatever icing or dog safe frosting you wish. Either way, Fido will love it!
