Ingredient Breakdown

This is a high-quality protein ingredient that helps to build lean muscle. Keep in mind, during the cooking process the amount of chicken is reduced by at least half.

Ground Whole Grain Corn

This ingredient is not easily digestible. It is typically added into pet food as a cheap source of carbohydrates and a cheap filler.

Ground Whole Grain Sorghum

This is another ingredient that is found in many low-quality pet foods. It is typically used because of its richness in vitamins and essential minerals such as iron, antioxidants, zinc, and niacin.

Chicken By-Product Meal

This ingredient is the leftover parts of a chicken after it has been slaughtered for human consumption. The leftover parts can include the head, brain, backs, and organs. It is seen as moderately nutritious and used to boost the protein content of pet food.

Dried Beet Pulp

This is nothing but the by-product of processed sugar beet. It is a source of fiber and offers no nutritional benefit to dogs due to its sugary content.

Natural Flavor

This ingredient comes from a variety of vegetables, fruit and meat sources. It is typically applied to kibble to enhance its palatability.

Chicken Fat

This is a high-quality source of fat that contains Omega fatty acids which can help promote a shiny coat and healthy skin.

Dried Egg Product

This is an ingredient that comes from an egg hatchery and is dehydrated for use. It is used to help boost the protein content on the label and is moderately nutritious.

Choline Chloride

This is a natural source of Vitamin B.

This ingredient is loaded with beta carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and fiber. It can help promote good digestive health, support the liver, kidneys,  immune system and lungs. It also has the added benefit of helping to improve your dog’s dental health.

This ingredient is typically used in pet food as a natural antioxidant that contains Lycopene as well as being a source of fiber.

Calcium Carbonate

This ingredient is added into pet food as a source of calcium, to help the food retain its color or as a preservative.

Iams Dog Food Reviews by Pet Parents

Most of the Iams dog food reviews you can find by actual pet parents online seem to be fairly positive. Take a look below at what some pet owners are saying about this food.

This is my dogs favorite food. I have a Spaniel with an extremely sensitive stomach. After trying a few different brands, this was the only one he could tolerate. Best of all, he loves it. -Heather D. Helm

Great food for the price. I love the fact that I don’t have to spend too much money to feed my dogs and he seems to be doing great on it. -GOCMA

Our dogs love this food. It has plenty of good ingredients and we have no plans on changing their food any time soon. -Megan E. Beebe

I give this food five stars! I absolutely love it! This is pretty much the only food my dog isn’t allergic to. -Linh N.

Extremely good food for dogs! I own two greyhounds that thrive on this food. After switching to this food, a few weeks later we noticed an improvement in the pink stain they would typically get around their eyes. We love it! -Sharon Plover

My Final Opinion

After taking a careful look at this food by looking at its ingredients and ready availability to pet owners, this is a food I don’t mind recommending. However, I will say, there are much better alternatives out there. My main issue with this food is the use of low-quality and questionable ingredients and of course the brand’s long recall history. I will say, this food is good for pet owners who want something inexpensive to get by.

Final Verdict:

Recommended, but better alternatives out there.
