This is an ingredient that is considered to be an excellent source of protein. It is also a source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids which can help support a healthy digestive system, a healthy coat and healthy skin.
This carbohydrate source is loaded with an Omega 6 fatty acid known as linoleic acid, which can help promote healthy skin. It is also considered a source of soluble fiber to promote regular bowel movements and help regulate blood glucose levels.

This is an ingredient rich in phytic acid and lectins. Lectins bind to proteins, which then bind to leptin receptors and regulate carbohydrates into glucose. These lectins can also attach to the villi within the digestive system which can block the absorption of some nutrients. This plant-based protein also contains carbohydrates, digestible fiber, Vitamin K and Manganese.
However, keep in mind with the latest findings from the FDA regarding peas and legumes, this is an ingredient I have to flag just in case. You can check out the FDA’s report regarding the link between legumes and heart disease in dogs by clicking here.

To put it simply, natural flavors are a combination of flavors deriving from meat, vegetable and fruit sources which are applied to the outside of kibble in order to enhance the flavor.
This ingredient is rich in amino acids such as tryptophan, valine, and methionine. While it is a source of essential vitamins, minerals and fiber dogs need, because of peas already showing up on this label, this ingredient is considered nothing more than filler at this point.
This ingredient is nothing more than a supplement containing calcium and phosphorus. It is an ingredient a dog naturally needs.
This ingredient is a mineral ingredient. It is a natural source of calcium, which can help to promote healthy dental health, support healthy joints and support normal muscle function.

After carefully looking at Blue Buffalo Basics dog food by looking closely at its ingredients, taking its price into consideration and looking into what other pet owners have been saying about this food, I don’t have a problem recommending it. However, even with my recommendation, since this food features the use of peas, I would be wary of feeding it to dogs, especially after the FDA’s findings on grain-free diets and their link to heart disease.
Regardless, it is a high-quality dog food brand that WILL help dogs who suffer from food allergies.
