While potatoes themselves are considered a healthy source of carbohydrates, this particular ingredient can be made up of as much as 10% dry matter which can alter the protein content in this food.

3. Chicken Fat

This is a healthy source of fat for your dog and is packed with Omega 6 acids which is essential for your dog’s life. It will also aid in giving your dog shiny skin and a shiny coat that you love to see.

4. Peas

Peas are a controversial ingredient being used in dog foods today. Regardless peas are seen as a high quality source of B vitamins as well Potassium, Thiamin and phosphorus. Peas are also another source of protein, giving this food some much more protein content.

5. Natural Flavors

The problem with this ingredient is how AAFCO defines it:

With respect to flavors, pet foods often contain ‘digests,’ which are materials treated with heat, enzymes and/or acids to form concentrated natural flavors. Only a small amount of a ‘chicken digest’ is needed to produce a ‘Chicken Flavored Cat Food,’ even though no actual chicken is added to the food.

What this all comes down to is how the company using the flavor and where it gets it from to produce this kind of flavor naturally. In this case, Venison.

6. Ground Flaxseed

This is a controversial ingredient that is used in many brands of food today. Regardless, this ingredient is a known source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty acids which can aid in giving your dog a shiny coat and healthy looking skin.

Dried Kelp is used in many dog foods today primarily as a thickening or gelling agent and comes from a dehydrated form of seaweed.

11. Brewer’s Dried Yeast

This is yet another controversial ingredient used in this food. Many people believe that this ingredient can cause allergies while others are convinced that it is highly beneficial for your dog as well as repel fleas. Regardless, this ingredient also contains about 48% protein and can be a nutritious additive in your pet’s food.

There are a couple of mixed reviews out there for Addiction dog food from various dog owners. Just take a look for yourself what some owners are saying about this food.

This is a great food for large breed dogs! My dogs love the Venison flavor! Addiction is a brand that offers its products without harmful grains or other dubious ingredients. However, I notice that the pricing fluctuates so make sure you keep an eye out for the best deal. -Peg, December 6th

This food is fabulous! My dogs absolutely love this stuff! After trying out a sample of Addiction at a charity event, my dogs keep bouncing around for this food. It is a grain-free kibble that I have no problem feeding my dogs on a daily basil. My dogs love it and I wouldn’t switch them off this food for anything! -Christy, October 29th

Make sure that you read the ingredients label first! While this food states on the bag that it is for dog’s who can’t eat chicken, lamb or beef, it has chicken fat listed on the label. -SharonSt, September 24th

This brand of food is very expensive to purchase, but worth it in the end. I own 4 very large dogs that are all on this food. It is helped every single one of my dogs overcome various ailments such as hot spots, food allergies or bad smell. The problem is for me, it is way too expensive. But after seeing my dogs thrive on this food, it is well worth the expense in my opinion. -Anne-Michele D, August 27th

Owners won’t like the scent of their dogs after they eat this food. The food itself makes my dogs smell terrible, but they do seem healthier, so I will deal with the smell for now. -No name, December 6th

Final Opinion

In my honest opinion I believe that this is a healthy brand of dog food that will be overall nutritious for your pet. However, with the use of a couple of controversial ingredients such as Brewers Dried Yeast and Peas, this is certainly not the best food out there. It is fairly priced though the fact that this food does not come in bigger sizes, this can be a downfall for owners with large dogs.

Regardless, this is a quality dog food that I highly recommend to other dog owners out there.
