    Breakdown

    1. The first ingredient in this food is Venison Meal. Venison Meal is a high quality protein used and contains as much as 300% more protein than Venison does alone.

    2. The second ingredient is Dried Potatoes. While potatoes themselves are considered a healthy source of carbohydrates, this particular ingredient can be made up of as much as 10% dry matter which can alter the protein content in this food.

    3. The third ingredient is Chicken Fat. This is a healthy source of fat for your dog and is packed with Omega 6 acids which is essential for your dog’s life. It will also aid in giving your dog shiny skin and a shiny coat that you love to see.

    4. The fourth ingredient is Peas. Peas are a controversial ingredient being used in dog foods today. Regardless peas are seen as a high quality source of B vitamins as well Potassium, Thiamin and phosphorus. Peas are also another source of protein, giving this food some much more protein content.

    5. The fifth ingredient in this food is Natural Flavors. The problem with this ingredient is how AAFCO defines it:

With respect to flavors, pet foods often contain ‘digests,’ which are materials treated with heat, enzymes and/or acids to form concentrated natural flavors. Only a small amount of a ‘chicken digest’ is needed to produce a ‘Chicken Flavored Cat Food,’ even though no actual chicken is added to the food.

What this all comes down to is how the company using the flavor and where it gets it from to produce this kind of flavor naturally. In this case, Venison.

    6. The sixth ingredient in this food is Ground Flaxseed. This is a controversial ingredient that is used in many brands of food today. Regardless, this ingredient is a known source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty acids which can aid in giving your dog a shiny coat and healthy looking skin.

    7. The seventh ingredient in this food is Dried Kelp. Dried Kelp is used in many dog foods today primarily as a thickening or gelling agent and comes from a dehydrated form of seaweed.

    8. The eighth ingredient is Dried Cranberries. Cranberries themselves are rich in various vitamins such as Vitamins A, B2, and C. This is also an ingredient used to help aid in healthy urinary tract function.

9 and 10. The ninth ingredient and tenth ingredients are Dried Apples and Dried Spinach. Apples and Spinach are another healthy source of various nutritious vitamins and minerals that you pets could benefit from.

    11. The eleventh ingredient in this food is Brewer’s Dried Yeast. This is yet another controversial ingredient used in this food. Many people believe that this ingredient can cause allergies while others are convinced that it is highly beneficial for your dog as well as repel fleas. Regardless, this ingredient also contains about 48% protein and can be a nutritious additive in your pet’s food.

    Final Opinion

In my honest opinion I believe that this is a healthy brand of dog food that will be overall nutritious for your pet. However, with the use of a couple of controversial ingredients such as Brewers Dried Yeast and Peas, this is certainly not the best food out there. It is fairly priced though the fact that this food does not come in bigger sizes, this can be a downfall for owners with large dogs.

Regardless, this is a quality dog food that I highly recommend to other dog owners out there.
